In an effort to ensure that its clients are getting the most out of their high-speed connectivity services, MAREN recently carried out Direct Engineering Assistance at two institutions in the Northern Region.
These institutions are Mzuzu University (MZUNI) and Mzuzu Technical College.
According to the Chief Technical Officer of MAREN, Zangaphe Chimombo the aim of the visit was to assist the said institutions with their campus networks so that they should benefit from the highest speed of internet which MAREN is providing them.
“They already have networks but sometimes they need optimization, in some cases redesign. This involves putting things in the right place and the right way so that the high-capacity which MAREN is providing should be felt by all users,” said Chimombo.
Chimombo added that even when the internet service has been improved as is the case with these institutions, not all users may immediately feel the benefits because of the way the campus network has been built.
In his remarks, the Network and Systems Administrator for MZUNI, Macloud Kaunda appreciated the visit and also explained that MAREN is the most effective Internet Service Provider they have ever worked with.
“The charge per Mbps is very much affordable enabling our university to afford a reasonable amount of bandwidth,” said Kaunda.
He further added that he was impressed with how MAREN experts handle network glitches which are inevitable due to various causative factors.
“They would always monitor connections, to the point of alerting us when the link is down even before us reporting,” added Kaunda.
The visit of the CEO has confirmed what Kaunda mentioned that the working relationship between the university and MAREN is very sound and effective.
It is with this regard that MAREN works to improve campus networks by helping them build networks that are scalable. They also help build capacity among local technical personnel on-campus network an aspect no commercial ISP does for his clients.
MAREN will shortly be rolling out EduRoam across higher education campuses across the country.
