The Malawi Research and Education Network (MAREN) has strengthened its understanding of emerging digital technologies that can support teaching, learning, research, and collaboration following its participation in the Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa Partner Summit 2026 in Shenzhen, China.
MAREN’s Network and Infrastructure Manager, Alexius Chipalamwazani, and Client Engagement Officer, Jewel Msofi, attended the summit from 25 to 27 May, joining partners from across Sub-Saharan Africa to explore innovations shaping the future of education and digital infrastructure.

The summit provided MAREN with an opportunity to experience a range of technologies designed to address the evolving needs of institutions in an increasingly digital environment. Of particular interest were Huawei’s smart education solutions, intelligent collaboration tools, and advanced connectivity technologies that have practical applications for universities, colleges, research institutions, government agencies, and other organisations.
One of the key highlights was Huawei’s IdeaHub, an intelligent collaboration platform that combines interactive presentations, video conferencing, digital whiteboarding, and real-time content sharing into a single solution. The technology is designed to support hybrid learning, virtual meetings, collaborative research, and modern classroom environments, enabling institutions to connect teams, students, and stakeholders regardless of location.

The delegation also explored Huawei’s IdeaPresence solution, which complements IdeaHub by enhancing virtual communication and meeting experiences. Together, the technologies offer institutions flexible tools for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and digital engagement.
The summit also exposed MAREN to emerging technologies such as WiFi-7, smart campus solutions, and cloud platforms, while providing opportunities to strengthen supplier relationships. The insights gained are expected to enhance MAREN’s ability to support institutions with innovative solutions that improve connectivity, collaboration, and digital learning.
As institutions continue to embrace digital transformation, MAREN remains committed to connecting them with innovative technologies that enhance teaching, learning, research, and collaboration. Institutions interested in purchasing solutions such as Huawei IdeaHub and other smart education and collaboration technologies are encouraged to engage MAREN to explore options tailored to their operational and learning need
