The Malawi Research and Education Network (MAREN) participated in the CHPC National Conference held in Cape Town from 30th November to 2nd December, 2025. The event, Africa’s largest gathering on high-performance computing, was co-organized by the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC), the Data Intensive Research Initiative of South Africa (DIRISA), and the South African National Research and Education Network (SANReN).
Held under the theme “From Data to Decisions: Leveraging Cyber-Infrastructure,” the conference brought together NRENs, researchers, experts, students, and industry stakeholders in high-performance computing, big data, and advanced networking.
MAREN was represented by its Networks and Infrastructure Engineer, Alexious Chipwalamwazani, who delivered a presentation on Malawi’s HPC roadmap, highlighting the current status, progress, and future plans for 2026.

MAREN has an HPC setup which is hosted at Malawi National Data Center, and the end of 2026, this infrastructure will be full operational, supporting Malawi’s research and education community in executing tasks that demand high computing power.
As MAREN continues strengthening Malawi’s digital research and education ecosystem, our participation in platforms like CHPC ensures Malawi remains aligned with global advancements in high-performance computing.
